Jakarta – The person who insulted Indonesia’s Presidential Chief of Staff Moeldoko on Facebook, Muhammad Basmi (43), was arrested by Police. The police said that all this time Basmi had often made insulting posts on his social media.
National Police cyber crime unit director Brig. Gen. Slamet Uliandi said Basmi was arrested at a house in Koja, North Jakarta, on Sunday (October 18) morning around 5.10 am.
Using inappropriate words, Basmi said Moeldoko was an intermediary for foreign parties. Basmi is considered to have spread hate speech. Police charge him under the Electronic Information and Transaction Law (ITE).
The police confiscated evidence in the form of a cellphone, a simcard, and a Facebook account.
The Presidential Staff Office official, Ade Irfan Pulungan, said social media should not be used to insult or curse. Social media should be used to understand something, educate yourself, and have a positive impact.
There has been no comment from the Presidential Chief of Staff Moeldoko regarding this arrest
